The Italian financial police have charged a father and his son with smuggling drugs from Switzerland to Italy. The two are said to have illegally transported a total of over 400 kilograms of cannabis derivatives and blocks of hashish across the border.

The two Italian nationals had transported over 280 kilograms of hashish blocks with a THC content above the legal limit, writes the Italian news agency Ansa. Oils and resins made from cannabis derivatives were also confiscated.

According to the surveillance camera footage, the two suspects mainly acted at night and in the early hours of the morning. In order to avoid checks, they drove a few minutes apart from each other. The first vehicle was used to check the road for possible police checks.

Once imported, the cannabis was sent to hundreds of end customers via unsuspecting logistics companies, including in northern Italy and other countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. In some cases, even stores and businesses were supplied.
