The Federal Council will recommend that Parliament reject the Compass Initiative without a direct counter-proposal and without an indirect counter-proposal. This was decided at its meeting on Wednesday.

According to a press release, it justifies this decision with the statement that voters and parliament have rejected the core concern of the popular initiative several times in the past.
The popular initiative "For a direct-democratic and competitive Switzerland - no passive EU membership (Compass Initiative)" wants all international treaties that provide for the adoption of important legal provisions to be approved by the people and the cantons.
Ultimately, the initiative committee wants to ensure that Switzerland's new treaties with the EU are also subject to a majority of the cantons. The petition for a referendum is supported by a group of entrepreneurs led by the founders of the asset management company Partners Group, based in Baar ZG.
