The national government has opened the consultation on extending the Winter Reserve Ordinance until the end of 2030, as announced on Friday. Parliament is currently in the process of putting the regulation, which is currently based on emergency legislation, on a proper legal basis. In order to prevent a gap until the revised Electricity Supply Act comes into force, the ordinance is now to be extended.
According to the Federal Council, the extension will allow the contracts with the operators of the existing reserve power plants in Birr, Monthey and Cornaux and the emergency power groups to be extended. This is necessary because a seamless replacement with new reserve power plants is not realistic.
