By 2035, Switzerland is to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65 percent compared to 1990 levels. On Wednesday, the Federal Council approved Switzerland's new reduction target under the Paris Agreement.

In addition, greenhouse gas emissions are to be reduced by 59% on average between 2031 and 2035 compared to 1990 levels, as announced by the Federal Council on Wednesday. This target is in line with the reduction path set out in the Climate and Innovation Act. The targets are to be achieved primarily through domestic measures.

The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to an increase of plus 1.5 degrees, the statement continued. It obliges all countries to take concrete steps to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
