After more than eighty rounds of talks, the umbrella organizations of the social partners and the cantons have agreed on a package to safeguard wage protection in Switzerland. The measures are primarily aimed at posting companies from the EU in the construction industry.

In mid-February, the social partners and the cantons announced that they had agreed on domestic wage protection measures. However, much remained unresolved. After around twenty further rounds of talks, a compromise seems to have been found: A package of fourteen measures is on the table - thirteen of which have been nodded off by the social partners and the cantons.

The Federal Council wants to include a further point in the consultation draft for the overall package with the EU, as it announced on Friday. It is proposing improved protection against dismissal for elected employee representatives, for members of an employee pension fund body and for members of national industry boards who work under a collective employment agreement that has been declared generally binding.
