He hopes that the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights will be strengthened by the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship, said Radoslaw Sikorski, Polish Foreign Minister, in response to a question from the Keystone-SDA news agency in Vienna. For him as a politician, it was important that an independent body could certify that elections had been conducted "freely and fairly".

Among other things, the office conducts election observations. It is based in Warsaw.

Sikorski also welcomed Cassis' approach of holding broad consultations before assuming the presidency. The foreign ministers had already exchanged views on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, the Federal Councillor discussed bilateral relations between Switzerland and the EU with EU foreign affairs representative Kaja Kallas, as was reported by the Foreign Minister on X. The two partners' foreign policy in general was also discussed.
