Jans discussed the functioning of the Schengen area, which was extended to Romania and Bulgaria on January 1, 2025, with Brunner in Zurich on Friday, as announced by the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) on Saturday.
It must be ensured that internal controls in the Schengen area are carried out within the framework of the legal requirements and are coordinated between the countries concerned. EU Commissioner Brunner emphasized the importance of effective external border protection. The member states must cooperate with each other.
