  • The federal government warns of danger from precipitation and flooding as well as thunderstorms in Ticino.
  • The weekend will be rainy and uncomfortable almost everywhere.
  • The sky will clear up again on Monday.

The federal government warns of dangers from rain, thunderstorms and flooding at the weekend. The reason for this is moist air flowing over Switzerland from the southwest before a low pressure system over Germany brings in a cold front from the west.

This means that Friday will fall into the water throughout the country. In Ticino, there is even a threat of dangerous thunderstorms with maximum temperatures of 25 degrees, warns the Swiss government. In the Alpine region, Zurich and eastern Switzerland, on the other hand, precipitation could become a problem, with a moderate risk of rain. On the northern side of the Alps, temperatures will range between 18 degrees in the Jura and 15 degrees in eastern Switzerland.

Where it rains a lot, there is also a "moderate risk" of flooding. In the area of the Rhone and Lake Constance, this danger is even "considerable" - and even "great" on the lower part of Lake Constance. The canton of Valais has declared a flood risk for the entire cantonal territory.

The bad weather continues on Saturday: There will still be thunderstorms in Valais, Graubünden, central and eastern Switzerland. In view of the precipitation, maximum daily temperatures will fall to between 15 degrees in the Jura, 19 degrees in Basel and Lucerne and up to 27 degrees in Ticino, where the sun could still make an appearance for a change.

On Sunday, it may remain dry in the west and extreme north of Switzerland. The rest of the country can expect more rain with temperatures similar to the previous day. The sun will come out again at the start of the week: it will remain dry on Monday and the mercury will rise to 26 degrees in Basel and Zurich.
