The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland intends to discontinue the coronavirus leaks proceedings against Peter Lauener, former head of communications for former Federal Councillor Alain Berset. The suspicion has not been substantiated.

The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) confirmed a corresponding report by Tamedia newspapers to the Keystone-SDA news agency on Thursday. The suspicion based on the usable evidence could not be substantiated, the OAG wrote.

This is a consequence of a Federal Supreme Court ruling in February, in which the court prohibited the OAG from analyzing emails between Alain Berset's former head of information and Ringier Group CEO Marc Walder, thereby supporting the lower court.

Like the compulsory measures court in Bern, the judges attached greater importance to the protection of journalistic sources than the clarification of the so-called corona leaks. The confiscated data carriers will therefore remain sealed.
