The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland and the Federal Office of Police said on Tuesday that they had carried out several house searches at collection companies in western and German-speaking Switzerland as part of proceedings relating to suspected signature forgeries.
Several people were also questioned as informants, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) and Fedpol announced on Wednesday. The searches took place on the premises of several organizations that collected signatures in return for payment. Proceedings are currently underway against various individuals and persons unknown.
Since October 2022, when the Federal Chancellery received the first criminal complaint from the OAG, around 30,000 signatures suspected of being forgeries have been reported to the OAG and Fedpol, according to the press release. The signatures had been collected for around twenty federal popular initiatives and the federal authorities were constantly receiving new reports.
