Lucerne police have arrested a group of suspected fences. They allegedly resold stolen bicycles, e-bikes, e-scooters, electrical appliances and other goods worth around CHF 255,000 abroad between May and October 2023.

The main suspect is a 39-year-old German national living in Lucerne, as the Lucerne public prosecutor's office announced on Monday. He is said to have bought the stolen items from drug addicts, among others. In return, they received cash or drugs. The main suspect then passed the goods on to third parties, who then sold them abroad.

In September 2023, the police intercepted a van with stolen goods at the Basel border. Two Polish drivers, the main suspect and three people involved were subsequently arrested. Criminal investigations have also been initiated against six people who stole the items and sold them on to the main suspect. The presumption of innocence applies.
