An accomplice in the robbery of a cash-in-transit in Chavornay VD in 2018 has been sentenced to five and a half years' imprisonment. The Federal Supreme Court only upheld the man's appeal on the issue of the claim for compensation.

In March 2023, the cantonal court of Vaud convicted the now 33-year-old of attempted and aggravated robbery. In a ruling published on Friday, the Federal Supreme Court confirmed that the man had acted as an accomplice and not as an accessory.

However, Switzerland's highest court has confirmed one of the man's complaints. He is therefore not jointly and severally liable with another convicted person for the compensation claim of around 25 million francs. According to the Federal Supreme Court, joint and several liability is permissible under civil law. However, the Criminal Code does not provide for this in the case of a claim for compensation.

The claim must be divided among the parties involved. It should be taken into account that the perpetrators of the robbery were not only tried in Switzerland.
