According to Russian reports, Ukraine has used a drone to set fire to an oil refinery in the Rostov region in southern Russia. Following the drone attack on Saturday night, a fire broke out at the refinery in the administrative district of Tsimlyansk.

As Rostov's governor Vasily Golubev announced in the online service Telegram, there are no fatalities or injuries according to initial findings. The site of the attack is several hundred kilometers away from the front line in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Russian army had intercepted and destroyed a total of four drones fired from Ukraine, two in the Rostov region, one in the Belgorod region on the Ukrainian border and one in the Kursk border region further north. The ministry did not mention the fire at the oil refinery.

Russia and Ukraine have regularly used drones in their mutual attacks since the start of the Russian offensive in February 2022. Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian territory in recent months, targeting Russia's energy infrastructure, among other things. For its part, the Russian army is systematically targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
