A resident alerted the fire department shortly before 8.30 p.m., the Aargau cantonal police reported on St. Stephen's Day. This was because thick smoke was rising from the attic of the house.
When the fire department arrived at the scene of the fire, the attic was already fully engulfed in flames. The fire department rescued the occupant of the apartment affected by the fire. The 60-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The other residents of the property were able to leave the house themselves and get to safety, it was reported. The property damage was considerable and the building is no longer habitable for the time being. It was initially unclear why there was a fire. The police began an investigation.
Later that evening, there was another fire in Aargau, according to a press release. Shortly before 11 p.m., the police received a report that a Christmas tree had caught fire in an apartment in Hendschiken. The occupants of the apartment were able to extinguish the fire. However, they too will have to look for a new place to live, at least temporarily. Their apartment is currently uninhabitable, they said.
