Covering about 30 hectares so far, the fire in the Van Nuys district in the northeast of the metropolis is the smallest of the reported fires. Overall, however, the situation in the US West Coast metropolis remained dramatic in the early hours of Wednesday morning (local time).

More than 52,000 people were asked to leave their homes. Almost 21,000 buildings are currently threatened by the flames, according to the city's forestry department. Fanned by strong winds with speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, the fires continue to spread in the area surrounding the west coast metropolis.

The largest fire near the Pacific Palisades district, which borders Santa Monica to the north, broke out late Tuesday evening (local time), according to the authorities. According to the authorities, it now covers an area of almost twelve square kilometers. Other fires are burning on nine square kilometers in Pasadena and near the city of San Fernando in the north of Los Angeles.
