Five dead after bus crash near Niagara Falls

The bus was on its way back to New York City from the world-famous tourist attraction. So far, there are no indications that any Europeans were on board. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear.

There were 54 people on the coach, including 52 travelers between the ages of one and 74. According to the police, two people belonged to the bus company. Five people died at the scene. Contrary to initial assumptions, no children were among the dead. Many people were thrown out of the bus during the accident. The injured were taken to hospital.

Bus driver may have been distracted

According to the spokesperson, the vehicle left the road near the city of Buffalo in the US state of New York. It is suspected that the bus driver was distracted, lost control of the vehicle and then oversteered. The bus overturned and came to rest in a ditch. A mechanical failure and a health impairment of the driver are currently ruled out as the cause of the accident. No other vehicles were involved.

The police spokesman said that the passengers were from different regions of the world. He named China, India, the Philippines and the Middle East. Americans were also among the passengers.
