The forest hike "Highlights in the Solothurn Jura" is the last of eleven planned forest hiking routes. It was opened on Thursday evening by Cantonal Councillor Brigit Wyss in front of invited guests at Röti, according to a statement.

The project was launched almost 20 years ago by the Office for Forests, Hunting and Fishing and ten routes had already been signposted with themed boards. The latest forest hike leads from Grenchenberg to Hasenmatt, the highest point in the canton of Solothurn. From there to the Weissenstein and over the Röti to the Balmberg.

World Heritage Site and dinosaur tracks

The 45 themed posts along the way cover topics such as forest management and climate change, the richness of the Jura beech forests, the formation of sinkholes, the habitat of butterflies and the importance of biodiversity in the forest. There are dinosaur tracks to discover in Lommiswil/Oberdorf and an additional loop leads to the Bettlachstock World Heritage Site.
