Four people went missing on Saturday morning after heavy thunderstorms and rainfall in the southern Graubünden valley of Misox. As on the previous day in the canton of Valais, people had to be evacuated from their homes. Meanwhile, the situation in Valais did not deteriorate.

Several dozen people had to be evacuated from their homes in the Misox and Calanca regions, as the cantonal police of Graubünden reported after 05:00 on Saturday. No further details were available at the time of the announcement. The cantonal police called a media conference for Saturday morning.

The massive thunderstorms and rainfall had led to a flood situation on Friday evening following a landslide, the press release continued. Rivers burst their banks and roads were flooded.

A landslide occurred in Misox on Friday, interrupting the A13 highway in both directions between Roveredo GR and Lumino TI in the lowest part of the valley. The A13 and the Italian road H13 had to be closed between San Vittore and the north portal of the San Bernardino tunnel. Access from the north in the direction of Roveredo was not possible due to the closure, according to the Graubünden cantonal police.

Zermatt still cut off

The situation in the canton of Valais did not worsen on Sunday night, as a spokesperson for the Valais cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency. The situation will be reassessed after a meeting of the crisis management team in the early morning.

The route between Visp and Zermatt remained closed for the time being due to the risk of flooding. There were no alternative transport options, as the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway announced on the online platform X early on Saturday morning. Zermatt thus remained cut off for the time being. Zermatt's mayor Romy Biner-Hauser told Swiss radio and television on Friday that vacation guests were safe. Those unable to arrive or depart will be given accommodation.

The railroad line between Riddes and Ardon in Lower Valais was also still interrupted on Saturday morning. Replacement buses were available for travelers between Sion and Martigny and between Ardon and Riddes, as the SBB announced on its website.
