A child was fatally injured in a traffic accident in St. Gallen on Monday evening. A car collided with the four-year-old boy, according to the police.
According to initial findings, a 44-year-old German man was driving his car on Stahlstrasse in the direction of Zürcher Strasse. The collision with the boy occurred in the area of Feldbachstrasse, according to a statement from the St. Gallen city police. The boy was left lying injured on the ground.
The police who responded immediately began resuscitating the child, who is of Austrian nationality. After the arrival of the emergency services, the child was taken to a children's hospital while resuscitation continued. Around two hours after the accident, the child died of his injuries.
Stahlstrasse was closed to all traffic while the accident was being investigated. The St. Gallen city police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them on 071 224 60 00.
