Six days of strikes at Lufthansa cost Frankfurt Airport around half a million passengers in April. The operator Fraport registered around 4.8 million passengers for the month, significantly fewer than in the same month last year.

In concrete terms, this corresponds to an 11 percent drop in passenger numbers compared to the previous year. Aircraft movements fell by 11.6 percent to 34,623 take-offs and landings, according to the MDax company.

The Easter vacations, which in 2026 did not fall entirely in April as in the previous year, also played a small role.

Cargo volumes also suffered from the pilots' and flight attendants' walkouts. Cargo fell by 0.6 percent to 168,526 tons. There was a lack of loading facilities on Lufthansa passenger aircraft.

In addition, the pilots also staged a strike at Lufthansa Cargo. Fewer flights and passengers mean lower revenue for the airport.
