While the apple harvest is likely to be two percent lower than last year, the pear harvest is expected to be 16 percent lower, according to a statement issued by the Swiss Fruit Association (SOV) on Monday. Although the first apples and pears have already been harvested, the harvest will not reach its peak until mid-September to the end of October.

The Gala variety remains the most widely grown apple in Switzerland with 30 percent, followed by Golden Delicious with 13 percent and Braeburn with eleven percent. According to SOV, Kaiser Alexander is the top pear variety with 26%, closely followed by Conférence with 24%. Williams and Gute Luise are in third place with 13 percent each.
