In the landslide area of Blatten in the Valais Lötschental, another part of the acutely unstable area broke off on Thursday evening. Two thirds of the unstable material has thus already broken away.

Meanwhile, the movement on the glacier has accelerated to 1.5 meters per day, as the Lötschental regional command staff reported on Thursday evening. Rock could fall from the Kleine Nesthorn onto the Birch Glacier and sweep the glacier away. In any case, the geologists are satisfied with the situation of the many small falls.
The weather and visibility were again poor on Thursday, making exploratory flights impossible. Reconnaissance flights are to be carried out on Friday when the weather improves. The experts expect this to provide a more precise picture of the situation in the landslide area.
The village of Blatten was evacuated on Monday due to the landslide risk. Around 300 people had to leave their homes and were accommodated in neighboring villages and in communities in the Rhone Valley.
