The pay gap was 8.4 percent last year, according to the wage structure survey published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Tuesday. Six years earlier, the gender pay gap had still amounted to 11.5 percent.
According to the FSO, the higher the hierarchical level, the more pronounced the pay gap. In jobs with a high level of responsibility, the gap is 14 percent, in jobs without a management function it is 5.2 percent.
Further findings from the study: one in ten employees received a low salary, i.e. less than 4683 francs per month. And Swiss monthly salaries still vary significantly between regions. In the Zurich region, the median salary was CHF 7502 and in Ticino CHF 5708.
