The Green Party municipal councillor (legislator) from Le Grand-Saconnex was re-elected in the elections on Sunday, as the president of the Geneva Greens, Maryam Yunus Ebener, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday. She was confirming a report by the "Tribune de Genève" and RTS radio and television in western Switzerland.

"A person involved in drug trafficking has no place in the Greens," she added, referring to resignation or expulsion. The party, which praised the work of the MPs, had not expected these revelations at all.

The police operation took place last Wednesday, as confirmed by the Geneva public prosecutor's office. The police carried out several house searches and arrests. They confiscated cocaine, MDMA, ecstasy, ketamine, cannabis products and more than 100,000 francs.

The police arrested nine people suspected of being involved in drug trafficking. They were all questioned by the public prosecutor's office on Thursday and Friday. The compulsory measures court then ordered pre-trial detention for eight of the suspects, including the municipal councillor.
