One of them was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a fire department spokesperson. Another passenger was seriously injured, the other ten slightly. The spokesperson was initially unable to say whether they were men or women.

There are still 269 people on the train who were not injured. The police are currently preparing to evacuate the train. The passengers will probably be taken away on buses.

The accident happened in the afternoon in the Hamburg district of Rönneburg. The ICE had crashed into the articulated lorry at a level crossing. According to initial findings, the truck was probably carrying railroad tracks. As a result of the collision, the load was spread far and wide along the scene of the accident.

The railroad line between Hamburg-Harburg and Maschen in Lower Saxony was closed. However, a Deutsche Bahn spokeswoman said that the impact on long-distance travelers was minimal. According to her, trains are being rerouted. There will be delays of around 15 minutes.
