Negotiations with the works council on the establishment of a transfer company and the drawing up of a social plan are currently in the "final phase", said a company spokesperson when asked by the German news agency DPA. The process announced in February is proceeding according to plan.
Dismissals for the 350 employees have not yet been announced by mutual agreement. "Our clear goal is to give employees prospects beyond June 30, 2026 as part of a transfer company and to actively support them in the transition to new employment relationships," the spokesperson emphasized. In future, the production of Playmobil figures will continue at existing company sites in Malta and the Czech Republic.
Playmobil attempts a turnaround
The Horst Brandstätter Group had fallen on hard times in recent years. The relevance of Playmobil toys in children's rooms has declined. In just a few years, the Group lost a third of its turnover.
Company boss Bahri Kurter announced at the toy fair in January that a turnaround could be achieved. In the year of the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, the company is attempting to do so with Playmobil figures depicting famous football players, among other things.
