Germany, France and Poland want to jointly develop long-range weapons. So-called stand-off weapons are a serious capability gap in Europe, said Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius on Monday in Paris at a meeting with his counterparts from Paris and Warsaw. The SPD politician said that by the time of the NATO summit in Washington in July, the aim was to "bring together a group of European states that agree to close this capability gap in the medium to long term".

A corresponding declaration of intent could then be signed at the summit. Pistorius went on to say that Washington would show how forcefully and reliably the Europeans would get involved.
