The Fribourg municipality of Gletterens is to be placed in receivership. This was decided by the cantonal government at the request of the chief bailiff of the Broye district, as announced on Wednesday.

The measure was taken "due to the systematic rejection of the municipality's annual accounts and budget". The municipal assembly had rejected the 2023 budget submitted by the municipal council three times, as well as the 2022 annual accounts.

The canton then took care of approving the budget and accounts and setting the tax rates. Since then, the municipal assembly has again rejected the 2024 budget twice.

Despite the involvement of the supervisory authorities and the assignment of a mentor, the municipality had not managed to put its situation in order. The relationship of trust between the executive and legislative bodies in Gletterens has not been restored.

The municipal affairs will now be managed by an administrative commission consisting of three external persons. The receivership will remain in place until the proper operation of the municipal bodies is guaranteed again.
