The US technology company Google is increasingly focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on Tuesday at the annual developer conference that the search engine's AI mode would be made generally available in the USA.

This would allow users to "make longer and more complex search queries" and make the results even more precise by asking more questions, said Pichai in Mountain View, California.

The Google manager responsible, Liz Reid, added that AI Mode searches the entire internet and goes "much deeper than traditional search".

A year ago, Google presented AI Overviews, a search function based on generative AI, for the first time. According to CEO Pichai, this is now used by more than 1.5 billion people worldwide. According to him, the largest markets include the USA and India. This means that Google Search brings generative AI "to more people than any other product in the world", he said.

With the help of generative AI, users can enter into a kind of dialog with virtual assistants. It can also be used to create photos, videos, audio or texts with little effort. The applications are therefore controversial in schools and universities.
