Traffic accident Gotthard road tunnel closed after vehicle fire

At around 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon, a vehicle caught fire in the Gotthard road tunnel. The tunnel will remain closed until further notice, as the Uri cantonal police reported on Friday afternoon at the request of Keystone-SDA.

The fire has since been extinguished, it added. The evacuation work is now underway.

It is important to observe the signposted detour and traffic instructions on the freeways.

At 2.18 p.m., TCS Gotthard reported four kilometers of traffic jam on the north side between Amsteg and Göschenen in the canton of Uri on the X short message portal. A few minutes earlier, TCS Gotthard had reported three kilometers of congestion between Quinto and Airolo in Ticino.
