A new suspension bridge was opened in Disentis/Mustér GR on Saturday. It is called "La Pendenta" and, with a span of 270 meters, is now the longest suspension bridge in the canton of Graubünden.

The new suspension bridge is an impressive example of modern engineering and local cooperation, announced the "La Pendenta" association on Sunday. The bridge leads from the Disentis/Mustér side at the Sontga Gada church to the hamlet of Mumpé Medel opposite.

Until now, Disentis/Mustér and the associated hamlet were separated from each other by the Rhine gorge at Cuflons. To cross the Rhine, people on foot had to overcome a height difference of 100 meters on both sides of the gorge.

The suspension bridge strengthens hiking tourism in the Surselva and has the potential to become a tourist attraction, according to the association that made the construction of the bridge possible in the first place. For example, the historic "Via Francisca del Lucomagno" pilgrimage route leading from Constance (Germany) to Pavia (Italy) is to cross the bridge.
