"A transparent and careful use and handling of AI ultimately also serves its own credibility and creates trust and acceptance," explained Parmelin at the opening of the Swiss Media Forum in Lucerne.
"If AI is used wisely, it can strengthen the media in its role as a pillar of democracy," said Parmelin, reiterating the danger that "fake news" poses to journalistic credibility and social cohesion.
The Federal Council's appeal came shortly after the media industry announced the adoption of a code of conduct for the responsible use of AI. This document, which is based on a Council of Europe convention, is intended to strengthen public trust in this technology.
