The newly elected President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, was celebrated in his home canton on Thursday. The Vaud SVP politician from Bursins is taking over the office of President of the Swiss Confederation for the second time since 2021.

Last week, 66-year-old Parmelin from Vaud was elected President of the Swiss Confederation for the year 2026 by the Federal Assembly with a brilliant result.

The special train with the party departed Bern at 1 pm. It made a stopover in Fribourg before continuing on to Parmelin's home canton.

In the late afternoon, Parmelin was expected at the Lausanne Hotel Management School, where the official ceremony was to take place with over 400 guests, including SVP President Marcel Dettling.

Other politicians accompanied Parmelin, including the current President of the Swiss Confederation Karin Keller-Sutter (FDP) and the President of the Vaud State Council Christelle Luisier Brodard (FDP).
