Amrize is derived from the two terms "Ambition" and "Rising", explained the world's largest cement and building materials group in a press release on Friday. The name and branding of Amrize will come into effect upon completion of the spin-off, which is still expected by the end of the first half of 2025. Until then, the North American business will continue to operate as part of Holcim.
Following the complete separation from the Swiss Group, Amrize's shares will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol 'AMRZ' and additionally on the Swiss stock exchange SIX, Holcim explained.
Dual listing for Swiss investors
According to market observers, a dual listing has an important advantage for Swiss fund investors: they can remain invested in the spun-off new North American company even if they are not allowed to hold US shares.
Otherwise, these investors would have to exit the North American unit, which would depress the share price. This could potentially prevent the new Amrize shares from being included in a major US index. On the other hand, there is a risk that a dual listing could lead to lower trading volumes for the US shares on the respective stock exchange than if the shares were listed exclusively on the US stock exchange.
Amrize wants to take off independently
Just over a year ago, Holcim announced its intention to separate its North American business and list it as an independent company in the USA. The North American business is expected to achieve sales of over 11 billion US dollars. The background to this is the US government's multi-billion dollar investment programs: "They will lead to unprecedented expenditure for the construction industry over the next eight to ten years," it said at the time. The split was necessary in order to fully exploit the potential and get off to a flying start.
The head of the new Amrize will be the architect of the spin-off, Jan Jenisch, who is giving up his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Holcim. "This is an exciting time for the construction industry in North America. It is characterized by an ongoing modernization of infrastructure, the relocation of production and the opportunity to bridge the housing shortage with the most advanced construction solutions," Jenisch continued.
