In November 2021, an operation on a two-month-old baby's hernia at Lucerne Children's Hospital ended fatally and has now been brought to court.
The defense lawyer for one of the accused said on Thursday morning that a criminal trial could have been avoided. The accused had tried to clarify the death of their child with the parents concerned outside of court. He pleaded for acquittal.
The public prosecutor and the private plaintiff see a wrong decision by the hospital staff as the cause of the baby's death. Another defense lawyer spoke on Wednesday, the first day of the trial, of "fateful complications".
The three defendants are charged with intentional homicide and negligent grievous bodily harm.
