Tourism Hotelleriesuisse introduces "Guesthouse" category
The industry association Hotelleriesuisse wants to introduce a new category called "Guesthouse". It is aimed at establishments that combine personal care with hotel-like services without fulfilling all the requirements of the traditional hotel industry.

This was decided by the umbrella organization of the Swiss hotel industry on Tuesday at its winter delegates' meeting in Lausanne. According to a press release, the 210 delegates also elected Daniel Grünenfelder as a new member of the association's management. He will succeed Patrick Hauser, who is stepping down after nine years, on January 1, 2026.
Grünenfelder began his career with SBB, the Zurich Transport Association and the Rhaetian Railway before moving into the hotel industry in 2010. Since then, he has reportedly worked in various accommodation establishments - from 5-star hotels to mountain inns - and most recently ran his own company.
The delegates also approved the association's strategic areas of action and the 2026 budget. The auditors for the 2025 financial year were also confirmed.
