The landslide came loose on the slope behind the house and hit it, the city police wrote. The report was received shortly after 9.30 pm.

According to the police, two residents had to be rescued from their house by the Chur city fire department. Following the work, the residents were able to return to their homes, as a spokesperson for the Chur municipal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency. There is no danger of another landslide.

The landslide had torn away the roof of an extension, the spokesman said. A picture provided by the police shows how the landslide reached two residential buildings. The houses were not damaged, the spokesman said.

Cause still unclear

It is still unclear why the slope started to move, the spokesman said. It is suspected that water leaked from pipes. However, only an investigation of the water pipes will show whether this was the cause of the landslide.

According to the police, Arosastrasse, which runs through the municipality, was also partially buried. The road was completely closed for around two hours to clear and secure it.
