In the metropolis of New York, ferry services have been largely suspended due to a severe winter storm and bitterly cold sub-zero temperatures. According to the ferry operator NYC Ferry, the ice on the Hudson River and the East River meant that ferry traffic was no longer possible. This could remain the case for several more days. Other ferry operators in the city on the US East Coast have also suspended or at least significantly reduced their services.

A devastating winter storm had swept across the USA in recent days. New York also experienced freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Further icy temperatures are forecast for the coming days. Meteorologists are also monitoring a weather system that could possibly bring new snow to the region at the weekend.
It is also still cold in the US capital Washington. People on foot there are struggling to cross roads through mounds of snow. Public schools will remain closed on Wednesday.
