At least 14 drivers of high-powered cars between the ages of 19 and 29 are suspected of taking part in an illegal motor vehicle race on Sunday in the districts of Waldshut, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Lörrach. This was announced by the Freiburg (D) police.

At around 3.15 p.m., eight suspects were stopped and checked by the police at a checkpoint on the Bundesstrasse 317 in Feldberg, the other six suspects a short time later at a checkpoint on the Bundesstrasse 317 in Todtnau-Fahl. A 20-year-old driver is also being investigated on suspicion of driving without a license. A security deposit of 6000 euros was levied.

The suspects allegedly passed the Waldshut border crossing at around 11:30 a.m. and drove along several federal roads to Schluchsee. The suspects are said to have overtaken several times on the route despite oncoming traffic, blocked junctions and crossroads and also overtaken on the right.

Mostly Swiss

All of the vehicles had Swiss license plates. They were predominantly AMG models. Most of the suspects are Swiss nationals.

The Weil am Rhein traffic police are investigating and are looking for witnesses and victims who may have been endangered by the suspects' driving behavior.
