Various players in the Swiss healthcare system have agreed on 38 measures to curb cost growth at roundtable discussions. These measures should have an annual savings effect of around CHF 300 million.
Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider told the media in Bern on Monday after the last of the three round table discussions that the goal set at the beginning had been achieved. At the start of the talks in 2024, the aim was to save around CHF 300 million per year from 2026.
According to a statement from the Federal Department of Home Affairs, the measures include the health insurance companies wanting to save CHF 40 million in administrative costs per year. Specific treatment recommendations will also be used to combat incorrect and excessive treatment.
Baume-Schneider took the initiative for the talks after stakeholders in the healthcare system complained that they had not been more closely involved by the federal government in the fight against cost containment.
