Europe 40 dead after boat accident off Tunisia's coast
According to official figures, 40 migrants have died in a boat accident off the coast of Tunisia. 30 people were rescued, the state news agency TAP reported. According to judicial circles, women and small children were among the dead.

A spokesperson for the judiciary confirmed to the German Press Agency that a total of 70 migrants were on board. According to initial findings, all the victims were from countries south of the Sahara. It is still unclear when the boat sank and from which coast it had set off. The judiciary has launched an investigation into the accident.
The wreck was found in the early hours of the morning off the coast, which belongs to the Mahdia governorate. Thousands of people attempt the crossing across the Mediterranean every year, mostly from Libya or Tunisia. Serious accidents happen again and again.
