The Grisons Office for Hunting and Fishing (AJF) targeted conspicuous wolves during the shootings, according to the press release issued on Monday morning. This included the Fuorn pack, which partly lives in the Swiss National Park. The AJF assumes that this wolf pack has now been completely wiped out.

The killings were all approved by the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). 44 animals were shot by the gamekeeper. The remaining four were shot by the cantonal hunters. They had to attend an information evening beforehand.

The so-called proactive regulation is important for reducing the number of kills during the grazing season. According to the AJF, the aim is to achieve lasting coexistence between humans and wolves. Livestock kills by large carnivores are on the decline.
