Following fierce criticism, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has revoked a plea agreement with the alleged chief planner of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and other co-defendants.

The Pentagon announced the decision with the publication of a memorandum in which Austin relieved the Department of Defense's overseer of the relevant proceedings of her duties with "immediate effect".
