In a neighborhood in the southeast of the city, residents say they have cleaned up the littered streets. There has been a lot of positive feedback for the initiative on social media, said one of those involved, Amin Hamuda. He now hopes that the campaign will spread to the entire city and ultimately to the whole of Syria.
According to residents, the garbage in Damascus has not been collected since Friday. The containers are completely overflowing and bags of garbage are piling up everywhere.
Government authorities in Damascus are preparing to offer their services again. The ministries called on their employees to go back to work. After the rebel alliance led by the Islamist militia HTS took over Damascus at the weekend, many employees initially stayed at home.
