  • Mike Jucker experienced the Lahaine fire disaster first hand.
  • He is not only committed to rebuilding his surf and skateboard store, but also wants to strengthen the sense of community in Lahaina.
  • He regularly reports on the progress of the reconstruction on YouTube.

After the fire disaster in Lahaina, there can still be little talk of reconstruction. Around 3000 buildings were destroyed. The town is a reminder of the tragedy with the remaining foundation walls and chimneys that withstood the flames.

6000 inhabitants of the island no longer have a permanent home. Before a safe return to the city is possible, the US military must first remove the toxins released by the fire, such as molten lead, asbestos and chemicals. It is still unclear what impact these toxins will have on the surrounding nature and the sea.

The cause of the fire is also still unclear: there are many indications that it was caused by fallen power lines that sparked in the dry grass.

Mike Jucker from Zurich lives with his family near Lahaina. Shortly after the fire, he spoke to blue News about the inferno that struck the place that is sacred to Hawaiians.

In the midst of the destroyed town, Mike shows how new life and hope is emerging from the rubble. In his video blog "Lahaina Fire Recovery", he documents his life after the disaster.

His stories are a testament to unwavering optimism and determination to not only rebuild his surf and skateboard business, but also to strengthen the sense of community in Lahaina. As the community struggles with rebuilding and social change, Mike Jucker's positive attitude represents a strong community spirit and the strength to overcome such crises together.

His lived dream of an eternal summer in Hawaii remains, even in the face of current challenges.
