According to activists, three people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Syria. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that two buildings in the town of Saida Zainab, south of the capital Damascus, were hit in the attack. Members of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah are said to have been present there, according to the UK-based monitoring center. There were also several casualties.

The Syrian state news agency Sana confirmed the attack. According to initial information, a residential building was hit. The Israeli military did not comment initially.

Israel's air force repeatedly bombs targets in neighboring Syria in order to prevent Iran and its allied militias from expanding their military influence in the country. Since the start of the Gaza war last year, the Israeli military has stepped up its attacks.
