In a statement by the UN Office for Human Rights, the experts urged the parties to the conflict to eliminate the causes of the conflict and ensure that violations of international law are punished.
The armed forces of the neighboring countries have been attacking each other since the end of February. Following the expiry of a ceasefire at the beginning of the week, Afghan media reports that fighting has resumed in the border area.
UN experts: insufficient evidence of terror support
Islamabad accuses the Islamist Taliban in Kabul of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan. The main focus is on the group Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Kabul denies supporting the group.
The UN experts are now criticizing the governments of both countries in their relations with TTP. The Afghan Taliban must prevent terrorist groups such as the TTP from threatening the human right to life. Pakistan, on the other hand, has not provided sufficient evidence that the Afghan government has instructed the Tehrik-e-Taliban to carry out attacks in Pakistan, according to the panel. Pakistan therefore does not have a right to self-defense.
According to the experts, some Pakistani attacks with civilian victims may also have violated international humanitarian law. Inquiries from the German Press Agency to government offices in Pakistan initially remained unanswered.
