A total of 62 people were arrested on Thursday around the football match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel Aviv. A 26-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday. According to the public prosecutor's office, they are accused of, among other things, disturbing public order.
Targeted attacks
According to the authorities, the attacks were targeted at Israeli fans. They are said to have been called for in various forums on the internet.
The attacks on the Israelis caused international horror and outrage. According to the authorities, 20 to 30 people were injured in the attacks, most of them slightly.
Videos also show violence by Israelis
The police pointed out that fans of the Israeli club had also rioted and provoked. There had already been clashes on Wednesday and before the match on Thursday. Maccabi fans had burned Palestinian flags and shouted insulting slogans. They had mocked the deaths of children in the Gaza Strip. However, this is in no way an excuse for the anti-Semitic attacks, emphasized Amsterdam's mayor Femke Halsema.
There are also videos showing acts of violence by Israeli fans. An Amsterdam photographer filmed how a group of around 150 Maccabi fans attacked people. These images were shown by various international media - initially falsely as evidence of violence against Israelis.
