Ahead of the meeting with US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has once again been promised the support of his allies, according to the German government. "The eleven heads of state and government from Europe and Canada as well as the heads of NATO and the EU assured Ukraine of their full support and emphasized that they would work in close coordination with the USA for a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine," a government spokesperson announced.

Selenskyj is on his way to the USA and will keep the so-called Berlin Group informed about the negotiations, the statement continued. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) had previously invited Zelensky to a telephone call in the format of the recent Berlin meeting at Zelensky's request, a government spokeswoman said.

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that the Europeans must be fully involved in the discussions concerning them, according to Élysée circles. Macron will host another meeting of the coalition of the willing in Paris in January.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who also took part in the talks, said on Platform X that she welcomed "all efforts that lead to our common goal - a just and lasting peace that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."

Trump will receive Selensky on Sunday. The White House announced the bilateral meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, for 3 p.m. local time (9 p.m. CET). The new top-level meeting will also discuss a possible end to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
