No sign of office fatigue: Viola Amherd is not thinking of turning her back on the Federal Council. The highlight of her presidential year was probably the Ukraine summit in mid-June on the Bürgenstock in Nidwalden.

Viola Amherd will "certainly not be stepping down" as Federal Councillor at the end of the year. The current President of the Swiss Confederation gave this assurance in an interview with Swiss television SRF on Monday. In doing so, she countered rumors to the contrary.
The presidential year has been so busy with appointments and work that she has not yet had time to think about stepping down, said the Valais native in the recording of the August 1st interview on Swiss-German television. Should the time come, she promised to inform the media immediately.
"You don't have to ask every week," she said to SRF parliamentary editor Urs Leuthard, after various media recently speculated about Amherd stepping down after her presidential year. And the defense minister emphasized: "I will continue to work."
